Last Vestiges of a Diabolical May

Woosh! In a two week period I’ve had ten shows cancelled at four different venues and five replacement dates picked up at four other venues. Please excuse the erasure marks on my website. I’ve been playing at The Rotten Apple in Grafton since 2008 but I’ll no longer be darkening that door. Or the one in Godfrey either.

The Wood in Maplewood, MO is still open but they’ve dropped live music. At least Kevin (the manager) called me and gave me some advance notice of my cancellation with him. He’s been a supporter of live music for some time and I hope that things turn around for them.

Two other lost dates were simply double bookings and that’s just part of the business. Not a good part, but they do happen from time to time.

On the sunny side, O’Kelley’s at the Ballpark (St Louis), The Copper Dock Winery (Pocahontas, IL) Joanies Pizzeria (Soulard), Blue Sky Vineyards (Makanda, IL) and Aspen Bar and Lounge (O’Fallon, IL) are great places to play and will be filling in some of the openings on my calendar.

Pitcairn

On April 28th of 1789 – William Bligh and 18 sailors were set adrift by a mutinous rebel crew led by Fletcher Christian. Equipped only with a sextant and a pocket watch — no charts or compass — Bligh navigated a 23 foot launch first to Tofua and then on an epic 41 day open-boat voyage to Timor. He recorded the distance as 3,618 nautical miles.

St Patrick’s Day is nigh upon us and much to your delight I’ll be playing two- yes, two shows to celebrate:

You’ll want to try the fried chicken at Diamond Mineral Springs and The Hive is like an old skool watering hole circa the 80s only without smoking. (they do have a patio as well in case you still smoke)

The post St Pat’s weekend promises to be a fun one as well. I’ll start on Friday the 23rd at Candicci’s and then Saturday and Sunday I’ll be returning to a couple of venues that I haven’t played for months. The Wood in Maplewood, MO on Saturday and a Sunday matinee at The Weingarten in Belleville, IL

Woo hoo! It is nearly springtime and the calendar is filling with dates at outdoor venues in addition to the usual restaurants, bars, and watering holes that dot the landscape of spring, summer and fall.

Okay, back on track here. Or is it untracked? As in “we just couldn’t get untracked in the 2nd half and it hurt our chances in the lateral stages of the final moments in the game.” Back to “bidness”. Lots of excitement in the realm including the new CD “Midnight Clear”. I’ve never done this before but I may move the pre-order free shipping date up slightly. Everything is ahead of schedule and instead of the cut-off date for it being March 15th I’m thinking I’ll make it March 1st since they will be available then.

Groundhog’s Day and other Jubilees 2012

Winter, slumbering in the open air, wears on its smiling face a dream… of spring.

This is one time where television really fails to capture the true excitement of a large squirrel predicting the weather.

Greetings and hello to February! You may notice that these weekly emails won’t be coming quite so frequently. I’m switching to a twice a month schedule in an effort to be less of a nuisance. Not so “nuisanceical” – if you will. I suppose this means that they are no longer weekly emails. Perhaps “bi-monthly music updates” is a bit unwieldy but more accurate. Perhaps bi-polar but I’ve never been much for travel to extreme locales. Expect updates around the 1st and 15th.

Now would be a good time to make sure that you are connected with me on Facebook, Bud’s Music Page, Twitter or any combination thereof so that you get up-to-date schedule reminders. I also try to keep things as current as possible on BudSummers.com

Well hello! It’s been a while. Although I’ve been on a break from playing out I’ve not been idle. I’ve just finished recording my 4th CD and have given it to Gary Will for mastering. It will be a “Christmas Instrumentals” album with just a few guitar parts on each cut. I figured it was a good idea to get it done while the music was still well-rehearsed from this year’s holiday season. You can preview a couple of songs Midnight Clear and Merry Gentlemen on my soundcloud page.

I was hoping to have this available by fall… but things are way ahead of schedule right now. The CD might be out in June so you can start your Christmas shopping early! That’s just what we need; start the holiday season in the summer.

I’m getting back out to play again soon. On Friday the 20th I’ll be at The Culinaria in downtown STL for “Sips in the City”. This is a cool event. A $5 donation to a worthy cause will get you a couple of drink tickets and free appetizers from 5-7. My friend the stellar bassist Jason McAtee will be joining me for this one.

On Friday January 27th I”ll be back at Parrots Sports Bar in St Charles, MO. Saturday January 28th I’ll be close to home with a show at Sunset Bar & Grill in Godfrey, IL. Chris and Kim graciously asked me to come back after a fun Thanksgiving Eve show there. The inimitable Bill Sehlmeyer will join me on percussion for the evening.
